Finland's departing social and health minister, Sinikka Mönkäre (soc dem), has voiced support for the construction of the country's sixth nuclear power station. Speaking on the Swedish language radio news of the national broadcaster Yle, Ms Mönkäre emphasised the fact that the construction of the station is solely dependent upon the decision of the financiers.

The minister did not consider it likely that the project would be abandoned for political reasons. In Ms Mönkäre's opinion, the political climate has changed significantly since the last time a decision was made to build a nuclear power station in 2002. Parliament was relatively divided on the issue in 2002, and the project was approved by 107 votes to 92.
